This has been the longest I haven’t blogged since I started my journal two years ago. Last week was incredibly busy. On Monday night I went to a farewell dinner for one of my colleagues who’s retiring from teaching. Then, on Wednesday night I went out with the Languages Department to say goodbye to a work mate who’s received promotion to Head of Languages in a different school. He teaches German and is actually from that country although he’s been living in Wales for a while. He’s been such a great guy to work with and we’re all going to miss him.
I’m hopeless when I go out at night I just can’t sleep properly. My head buzzes and it’s not because I’ve been drinking because I don’t drink and drive. So I was very, very tired last week. We broke up for the holidays on Friday. I’ve got six weeks of bliss ahead of me. LOL! The weekend I was in recovery mode, mostly chilling and reading A Thousand Splendid Suns Khaled Hosseini’s latest novel. (Just as good as The Kite Runner.) It poured with rain and people in the next county of Gloucestershire are suffering from terrible flooding. We’re lucky to be on high ground in this part of Wales.
Yesterday my son took me to see the latest Harry Potter movie The Order of the Phoenix. It was very good. Son is now reading book seven. J.K. Rowling grew up here in Chepstow and I’m hoping some of the magic will rub off on me. LOL! Still no news on the job front for son. Fingers crossed ...
I took a break from writing last week but I managed several hundred words today in between getting some washing out to dry and doing a bit of gardening. Would you believe we’ve had the only sunny day forecasted for a week? Apparently the jet stream has slipped south which is why we’re having this awful weather. Summer 2003 was boiling hot here in the UK when the jet stream stayed north of us. Husband and I are off to Italy in a week’s time and temperatures there are over a hundred (40 C). We’ll melt but we can’t wait to soak up the sunshine.
